Local attractions: Şirince is a great base because you're within 30 minutes of some of Türkiye's most famous historical and natural attractions. Here are the places I'd recommend: 🏛️ 1. Ephesus (10 minutes) This is the main attraction in the area and one of the best-preserved ancient Roman cities in the world. Highlights include: The Library of Celsus The Great Theatre (held around 25,000 people) Marble streets Temple of Hadrian Terrace Houses (worth the extra ticket if you're interested in Roman homes) Plan: Allow 3–4 hours. ⛪ 2. House of the Virgin Mary (20 minutes) According to Christian tradition, this is where Mary spent her final years. Even if you're not religious, it's a peaceful place set in beautiful forest. Allow about 1 hour. 🏛️ 3. Temple of Artemis Once one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Today only a few columns remain, but it's worth a quick stop if you're already visiting Ephesus. 🏰 4. Ayasuluk Castle A restored hilltop fortress with panoramic views over Selçuk and the surrounding countryside. It's much quieter than Ephesus and offers excellent photo opportunities. 🕌 5. İsa Bey Mosque Built in 1375, this elegant mosque is one of the finest examples of early Anatolian architecture. Admission is free. 🍷 6. Explore Şirince itself Don't rush through the village. Things to enjoy: Traditional stone houses Local fruit wines (peach, blackberry, pomegranate, mulberry) Olive oil shops Handmade soaps and crafts Small cafés with scenic terraces The village is especially charming early in the morning or after the day-trippers leave. 🌊 7. Kuşadası (25–30 minutes) If you'd like a change of pace: Walk the waterfront promenade Visit the marina Watch the sunset Enjoy fresh seafood Visit the historic Güvercinada 🌿 8. Dilek Peninsula–Büyük Menderes Delta National Park (about 1 hour) Ideal if you enjoy nature. You'll find: Crystal-clear beaches Pine forests Hiking trails Wild boar (often seen near picnic areas) Spectacular Aegean coastal scenery 🍇 9.
